The secrets to clear skin

Clear skin is something at one point or another we have all coveted, (no thanks to photo-shopped celebrities and FALSE advertisement) a fresh face behind the make-up can be a pain to not only maintain but achieve in the first place and although make-up is fun, sometimes you need to just go au-natural. Fortunately, I have never personally suffered from acne or severely poor skin, however I have my fair share of blotchy, pale, spotty days and suffer in particular from redness, oiliness,  blackheads and patchy anaemic skin. Therefore my teenage years have been a learning curve of finding out how to achieve consistent, clean, clear skin  and although my face always throws me a 'where on earth did that come from?' and spots that are the size of a thumbnail, I feel I have adopted a pretty good routine.  My 3 top tips for clear skin are hopefully useful to you and something you could incorporate into your routine!

1) WATER- Yes I know Captain Obvious, but water is so easy of a step to miss out! I know water is good for you, however there have been times I have been sceptical about the true power of water on my skin however water hydrates and flushes toxins and bacteria from your body and face. Do not underestimate the power of drinking water every day, get yourself into a routine, before school or before bed (If you choose this option I am not responsible for any accident that may or may not occur) and be consistent. Fresh water =Fresh face. By drinking water you are just giving your body a little help and your skin a push in the right direction!

2) VIGOUROUS DAILY CLEANSING - Again obvious, but this is so important! If you want clean, clear skin you need to take care of your face. Now, although a good cleanser is important along with toners, primers and moisturisers in maintaining your skin, before all of this make sure your face is sparkling clean! Whether you decide to shower beforehand, or simply wash your face with some warm water and a flannel make sure you do! If not, you are just asking for trouble! Do not let makeup build up and be consistent in your routine to get the best results. I highly recommend exfoliating gloves, although they may seem very harsh on your skin, I suffer from blackheads and my face seems to attract dirt therefore these gloves work brilliantly (along with a facial scrub or cleanser) in effectively removing dirt and blackheads before I moisturise. Be careful with your skin if you use exfoliating gloves, especially if you skin is sunburned, cracked or extremely sensitive!

3) LET YOUR SKIN BREATHE- Allowing your skin to breathe is important, whether this is at night, or a day in the week be brave and go natural for a day. Make-up despite your best efforts can build up and upset your skin, therefore makeup free days are crucial. Grab your best friend, a face pack, some sliced cucumbers and have a chilled day! Or even better if you go outside during the makeup free day, be confident! There is a reason your skin feels so good on holiday!

These are just my top tips for my skin, I would love to hear yours! Remember nobody has completely clear skin, a lot of us wear make-up so we are all in the same boat regardless of the severity of your skin. Be confident and you will find a routine that works well for you!
